Overview
Auric is a music player that runs locally on your Mac.
Your music library, playback history, playlists, and
preferences stay on your device. We do not collect
analytics, track usage, or build user profiles.
Data Stored on Your Device
Auric stores the following data locally using macOS
system services (SwiftData, Keychain, UserDefaults):
- Your music library index (track metadata, play counts, ratings)
- Playlists and smart playlist rules
- Watched folder paths
- Equalizer and playback preferences
- License key or subscription status
- Last.fm session token (if connected)
This data is never transmitted to us.
Network Requests
Auric makes network requests in the following cases:
- License activation and validation
(direct version only) - your license key and a
hardware identifier are sent to our server to verify
your license. No personal information beyond your
email address (provided at purchase) is stored.
- App Store subscription verification
(App Store version only) - handled entirely by
Apple through StoreKit. We do not operate a server
for subscription validation.
- Last.fm - if you connect your
Last.fm account, Auric sends scrobble and now-playing
data directly to Last.fm's API. This is governed by
Last.fm's privacy policy.
- AcoustID / MusicBrainz - when
you use the track identification feature, an audio
fingerprint is sent to AcoustID's public API to
identify the track. No audio content is transmitted,
only a compact fingerprint.
- Album art - Auric queries
Last.fm's API to find album artwork for your library.
Only artist and album names are sent.
- Listen Together (Radio) - audio
is streamed directly between devices over your local
network or the internet. No data passes through our
servers. Connections are peer-to-peer.
- Update checks (direct version only)
- Auric checks for updates via Sparkle. This
contacts our server to fetch the appcast. No user
data is sent.
Third-Party Services
Auric integrates with the following third-party services,
each governed by their own privacy policies:
Use of these services is optional and initiated only by
your actions within the app.
Children
Auric is not directed at children under 13 and we do not
knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be
posted here with a new date.
